Unit Details

The Neurology and Seizure Monitoring Unit (NEMU) is a 25-bed acute care unit providing specialized care to patients with neuro disorders, including epilepsy, CNS lymphoma, myasthenia gravis (MG), Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), and multiple sclerosis (MS).

UAB Medicine is home to Alabama’s only Level IV Epilepsy Center, the highest designation available from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. Nurses on this unit have an opportunity to work with a comprehensive range of advanced technology and the latest treatments. They are active members of an interdisciplinary care team, working alongside neurologists and neurosurgeons with expertise in all types of epilepsy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
• One (1) year of emergency or ICU nursing experience required if job is in a free-standing emergency department (FSED) location.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required depending on the unit/department.
