About the role

The Main OR PreOp/PACU is a 38-bay department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor's Level 1 Trauma Center, with 20 operating rooms averaging 50 cases per day. Our mission is to provide high-quality care to every patient requiring a surgical intervention, both before and after anesthesia.

Certifications Offered

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
  • Certified Perianesthesia Nurse (CPAN)

Required Education and Licensure

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current Michigan Nursing License
  • BLS Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs
  • Interpersonal skills for initiating and maintaining collegial relationships
  • Critical thinking skills for planning and performing professional nursing care
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail

What You Will Do

  • View patients holistically, considering physical, psychosocial, emotional, age-specific, cultural, and spiritual factors
  • Assess patients appropriately and respond to patient situations with critical thinking
  • Create, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized care plans using evidence-based interventions and standards of care
  • Identify and address patient and family education needs, developing and implementing teaching plans based on evidence-based practice
  • Utilize teach-back methodology to ensure patient and family understanding
  • Identify necessary resources for discharge planning and collaborating with other disciplines
  • Create a positive patient experience environment
  • Communicate patient status, priorities, and interventions accurately, timely, concisely, and thoroughly
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and other disciplines during consultations, rounds, and handoffs
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaching conflicts constructively, and participating in problem-solving
