General Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Phelps Health provides direct patient care using the nursing process, adhering to the ANA Code of Ethics, and follows established hospital policies for patient safety.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient safety measures like infection prevention and critical lab notification.
  • Maintains and cares for central lines and prevents surgical site infections according to policy.
  • Administers medications, performs nursing interventions, and educates patients and families.
  • Documents all patient care activities and quality monitoring items.
  • Communicates patient information to physicians and team members.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
  • Communicates with patients and families to enhance their experience and support health outcomes.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and engages in continuing education to improve nursing practice.

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • One year of experience preferred.

Certification/License

  • Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure.
  • Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Considerable mental concentration required.
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and nearly constant walking required.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases via blood and bodily fluids.
  • May encounter hostile persons at times.
