About the Role

The RN provides direct and indirect care in the emergency care setting, reflecting initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include triaging patients safely, rapidly, and accurately, determining care priorities based on physical and psychosocial needs, and managing patient flow through the system. The RN communicates changes in patient status, symptomatology, and diagnostic results to Emergency Department physicians and responds quickly to changes in condition or treatment response. Additionally, the RN meets established Emergency Nursing Standards of Practice, manages supplies, medications, and equipment, and promotes teamwork within and across departments.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency setting with minimal supervision.
• Triage patients safely, rapidly, and accurately upon entry into the emergency care system.
• Determine priorities of care based on physical, psychosocial needs, and patient flow factors.
• Communicate changes in patient status, symptomatology, and diagnostic study results to physicians.
• Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response.
• Adhere to established Emergency Nursing Standards of Practice for assigned patients.
• Manage supplies, medications, and equipment in the department.
• Promote teamwork within the department and with other departments.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN licensure or Multi-State Nursing Compact Licensure.
• BLS certification completed prior to unit/department assignment and maintained thereafter.
• ACLS certification.
• Pediatric and trauma certifications required within the first year of employment.
• North Carolina licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-North Carolina residents.

Qualifications

• Required:
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
  • One year of medical/surgical acute care experience.
• Preferred:
  • Graduate of an accredited four-year Nursing Program (BSN).
  • Previous emergency, critical care nursing, or paramedic experience.
  • MICN and CEN certification encouraged after two years of employment.

This is a PRN (as-needed) relief position at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Murphy, NC, with temporary standard hours.
