RN PRN 20P - Labor & Delivery - 3rd Shift
About the Role
Labor & Delivery at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children is the highest delivering hospital in Alabama and the regional referral center for North Alabama and southern Tennessee. The unit includes 20 Labor Rooms, 3 dedicated OR suites, a newly renovated PACU, an 11-bed high-risk Antepartum unit, and the state’s first Obstetric Emergency Department managed by board-certified OB/GYN Hospitalists.
The L&D RN provides skilled care for pregnant patients during labor, obstetrical emergencies, and other obstetric conditions. Responsibilities include assisting women throughout labor and birth, serving as the circulating or scrub nurse during cesarean sections, offering patient support, delivering critical nursing care, and providing comprehensive pregnancy and postpartum education. The RN is accountable for patient outcomes during their assigned shift, ensuring clinical and service excellence.
Responsibilities
- Manage care for patients during labor, obstetrical emergencies, and other obstetric conditions.
- Assist women throughout labor and the birthing process.
- Serve as the circulating nurse or scrub nurse during cesarean section deliveries.
- Provide patient support, critical nursing care, and pregnancy/postpartum education.
- Assess patient needs and prioritize care accordingly.
- Plan and delegate care based on patient needs.
- Evaluate patient responses to care and progress toward expected outcomes.
- Collaborate with Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians and other disciplines to care for patients with complications such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.
Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
- Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
- BLS certification required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
