Job Details
Job Summary and Responsibilities
- Provide thorough pre-operative assessments, patient education, and preparation, ensuring all pre-surgical requirements are met, identifying potential risks, and preparing patients for anesthesia and surgery.
- Initiate and manage post-anesthesia care in the PACU phase, performing frequent assessments of vital signs, airway patency, pain levels, and neurological status, to safely recover patients from various types of anesthesia.
- Implement and manage care plans for post-operative patients, including advanced pain management techniques, wound care, nausea control, and fluid management, ensuring patient comfort and stability.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate smooth patient transitions and address immediate post-operative concerns.
- Educate patients and their families comprehensively on post-operative care instructions, medication regimens, potential complications, and discharge planning, facilitating a safe and informed transition home or to an inpatient unit.
- Maintain readiness for rapid response to post-operative complications, such as respiratory depression, cardiac events, or hemorrhage, demonstrating expert critical thinking and immediate intervention skills in an acute recovery setting.
Job Requirements
- Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
- At least 2 Years Of Experience In Pre-Operative (PSCU) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nursing
- LICENSURE Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
- Working knowledge of clinical skills in delivery of patient care for pre and post-operative patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
- Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff
- Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
- Maintains confidentiality
Union Work Agreement
- Shift type/Length: Days, 8 & 12 hour shifts
- Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Weekend call rotation / Holidays Call Only
- On-call Expectations: Yes
