About the Role

Baylor Scott & White Temple TX is seeking a Registered Nurse for a part-time night shift position (7p-7a) in the Labor and Delivery department. This Magnet recognized and Level IV Maternal Care Designation unit averages 300 births per month and operates within a multidisciplinary team environment. As a teaching hospital, residents are present in the department. The fast-paced, high-acuity unit comprises 12 L&D rooms, 5 Antepartum beds, 3 ORs, and 4 OB ED rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model, including patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel and understand patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build therapeutic connections with patients and families by managing discomfort and staying professional.
  • Help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan, delegate tasks carefully, and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show community service commitment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited RN Program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
  • Current RN license.
  • BLS certification required (must obtain within 30 days of starting).
  • 1 year of RN experience in Labor and Delivery required.

  • Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area, along with hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
