Primary location: B Department PACU. Full-time night shift (36 weekly hours, 0.9 FTE).

Responsibilities

  • Apply clinical judgment by synthesizing and interpreting multiple data sources, anticipating problems, and seeking interprofessional collaboration to respond to complex situations.
  • Lead efforts to improve documentation of the plan of care, care delivered, and outcomes of care.
  • Engage patients and families in the plan of care, addressing current and future needs.
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and community resources to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Orchestrate caring practices to address patient and family comfort and concerns, promoting a healing environment for all outcomes, including end-of-life care.
  • Integrate age-specific and developmental concepts into patient care.
  • Develop care goals and actions in partnership with patients and families using self-management strategies.
  • Modify or develop patient and family education programs; evaluate effectiveness using teach-back methods and behavioral observations.
  • Support patient and family transitions to home through integrated care strategies.
  • Navigate and negotiate systems on behalf of patients and families through care coordination; lead system changes to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain an understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards; assist in compliance efforts.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with safety and departmental policies; fulfill individual certifications and Safety College requirements.
  • Communicate safety and compliance concerns assertively to leadership.
  • Coordinate team care delivery as charge nurse, anticipating and mitigating unexpected circumstances.
  • Demonstrate integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
  • Advocate for patients, families, and communities; empower patients and families in decision-making and self-representation.
  • Incorporate inclusive resources and cultural differences into care, including alternative therapies.
  • Promote and model collaborative behavior; mentor others to respect team contributions.
  • Lead shared governance structures at cluster or divisional levels; serve as chair for councils, committees, or projects.
  • Improve or individualize standards and guidelines for patient care; question and evaluate current practices based on evidence and patient responses.
  • Create practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning.
  • Develop competence in peers through precepting and knowledge sharing.
  • Use self-appraisal, performance review, and peer review for competence assurance and professional development.
  • Precept nursing peers and students; facilitate learning for healthcare teams and the community.
  • Lead efforts to identify, share, implement, and evaluate safety best practices.
  • Consistently integrate age-specific and culturally inclusive concepts into patient care.

Requirements

  • BSN from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution or MSN required.
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Active Ohio RN license; may require additional state licensure.
  • Active certification; some roles require specialty certification.
