Responsibilities
- Establishes guidelines for prevention and spread of contagious, infectious or communicable disease;
- Assists with monitoring for a sanitary environment for facility personnel, residents, and visitors;
- Ensures that all infection control policies and procedures are implemented and followed;
- Captures regular in-services on infection control practice at least quarterly;
- Assumes responsibility for detecting and reworking nosocomial infections on a systematic and current basis;
- Coordinates surveillance of all departments pertinent to infection control practices;
- Conducts epistemological investigation of all significant clusters of infection;
- Recommends changes to corporate policies and procedures for the Infection Control Manual;
- Conducts rounds throughout nursing facility to assure compliance with State, Federal and Prospect Heights Care Facility guidelines;
- Reports findings to the Director of Nursing and to the Administrator;
- Arranges physicals for all new employees and schedules follow-up medical reviews/PPD’s in accordance with state/federal regulations;
- Maintains active involvement in facility Quality Improvement Policy;
- Concerns himself/herself with the safety of all facility residents in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also, ensures that the facility adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes, by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the facility’s fire, safety and disaster plans and by being familiar with current MSDS;
- Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
- Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
- The Infection Control Coordinator must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse licensure by the NJ State Board of Nursing.
- A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent clinical experience is required and a minimum of two years of clinical experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred.
- An annual attendance of an Infection Control Seminar and comprehension of Windsor Gardens Care Center Infection Control Manual are also required.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques and practices;
- Thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and equipment used in the area to which assigned;
- Knowledge of dietetic, sanitation and personal hygiene;
- Skilled in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment;
- Knowledge and understanding of basic nursing and infection control practice and procedures;
- Reasonable working knowledge of principles of epidemiology and infectious diseases;
- Ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public;
- Provides annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
