About the Role

As a Center Medical Specialist in one of our plasma donation centers, you will perform physical examinations, establish medical histories, and determine donor suitability. You will build rapport with donors, ensure confidentiality, and provide education regarding general health and test results. The role involves evaluating and managing donor injuries, assessing donor suitability, assisting in employee training, and administering the employee Hepatitis Vaccine program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examination and establish medical history to determine donor suitability
  • Build rapport with donors to ensure overall customer satisfaction
  • Ensure donor and staff confidentiality
  • Responsible for donor awareness of potential hazards
  • Provide donor education regarding general health and counseling regarding unacceptable test results
  • Evaluate and manage donor injuries and adverse events
  • Perform evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor suitability
  • Assist in employee training
  • Administer employee Hepatitis Vaccine program

Requirements

  • Educated and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment as either a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
  • Current CPR certification required

Qualifications

  • Work is performed both standing and sitting for up to 2 to 4 hours per day each
  • Requires bending and twisting of the neck for 1 to 2 hours per day
  • Frequent hand movement with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Ability to make precise coordinated movements to grasp and manipulate objects
  • Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch, or sit on heels on rare occasions
  • Occasionally walks, bends, and twists at the waist
  • Light lifting of 15 lbs. with a maximum lift of 50 lbs.
  • May reach below shoulder height
  • Hearing acuity essential
  • Color perception/discrimination, near vision, and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye
  • Able to communicate information and ideas effectively; ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words
  • Works independently and within guidance of oral or written instructions
  • Performs a wide range of tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions
  • Relates sensitive information to diverse groups

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a plasma center
  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms
  • Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment
  • Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F while performing functions in plasma freezers
  • Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves, and cold-gear

Pay

Pay scale of $32 - $35 per hour for LPNs and $48 - $50 per hour for RNs, depending on training, education, and experience. This position is eligible to participate in up to 4% of the company bonus pool. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available, paid in two installments.
