Responsibilities

  • Administers medications within the scope of practice and the hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Assesses, evaluates, interprets, and documents the patient's physical and mental status.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing rapport with patients and significant others; collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to resolve patient problems.
  • Promotes patient independence by setting care goals; educating patients and significant others about conditions, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Ensures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals; making or recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to policies and protocols for patient and employee safety.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and maintains continuity of care through accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Stays current with professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, networking, and participating in professional societies.
  • Completes annual competency and regulatory education.
  • Contributes to team efforts measured by Press Ganey/HCAPS, AIDET, and Model of Care and Conduct.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of medical equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, critical thinking, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to administer medications per policy and procedure, follow National Patient Safety Goals, and interpret lab and diagnostic results.
  • Ability to communicate with all disciplines using SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation).
  • Demonstrates courteous, kind, compassionate, and positive attitude; supports organizational values.
  • Clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, nursing skills, physiological knowledge, medical teamwork, listening, health promotion, and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) certification.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • For ED/ICU: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • College Diploma in Nursing required; Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred.
  • 0 years of experience required (entry-level position).
