RN Oncology Clinic-Infusion Center
About the Role
Soin Medical Center is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to provide quality nursing care to patients experiencing hematological/oncological/surgical and radiation treatments and disease management. The RN utilizes the nursing process in collaboration with other healthcare providers, acts as a patient advocate, and participates in performance and practice improvement activities. The role reflects the missions, vision, values, and philosophies of Kettering Health Network.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to oncology patients in all settings, including hematological, oncological, surgical, and radiation treatments.
- Develop and apply knowledge of the oncologic process and oncologic emergencies.
- Instruct patients and their support persons about disease, symptom management, and treatment.
- Advocate for patients' needs and serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Assess and recognize oncologic emergencies and intervene appropriately.
- Perform central line management and assessment of port function.
- Conduct ongoing patient assessments before, during, and after treatment administration.
- Ascertain patient symptoms in relation to their treatment regimen and other oncologic modalities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff during times of crisis.
- Document all patient contact within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Identify learning needs of patients and families and provide appropriate education.
- Utilize the oncology EMR for charting, charging, order retrieval, scheduling, and data interpretation.
- Follow up promptly on patient concerns and questions.
- Instruct patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and aftercare instructions.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude toward patients, families, and staff.
- Provide a calm and supportive environment for patients receiving cancer treatment.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; must be completed within 5 years of hire if not already obtained.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
Skills
- ONS chemotherapy and Biotherapy administration certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire if working in an infusion center).
- OCN certification preferred.
- Knowledge of and compliance with Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy guidelines.
- Ability to administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy agents in accordance with ONS guidelines (if hired to an infusion center).
- Knowledge of drugs, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy treatments, and related procedures.
