RN - Onboarding Specialist I - Freeman West Campus

About the role

This position will support the Nursing Resource Department.

What You'll Do

• Utilizing advanced knowledge, education and competence, the Onboarding Specialist I will function in an expanded role within the assigned clinical department(s) in collaboration with unit leaders and preceptors ensuring all required orientation and educational opportunities occur during the orientation phase.
• Assist with the assessment of educational needs of the assigned departmental staff in order to plan, implement, and evaluate educational/orientation opportunities.
• Assist with the development and/or implementation of system-wide courses, workshops and in-services.
• Promote and lead by example the Freeman Health System's Five Star Promise of Compassion, Teamwork, Professionalism, Ownership and Communication.

Essential Functions

• Formulate program outcomes and design curricula that reflect contemporary health care trends and prepare students to function effectively in the health care environment.
• Engage in use of scholarship and scholarly activities that initiate efforts towards quality improvement, curriculum design and instructional methodologies.
• Coordinate items related to orientation on the unit to successfully onboard new employees.
• Track and maintain orientation checksheets per position, manage new employee schedules through orientation, and work with preceptors to facilitate successful orientation to the unit.
• Develop and facilitate unit learning plans, employee academic reviews, preceptor training series, and other education per needs of the unit.
• Address educational needs in a proactive manner by developing communication channels with physicians, unit directors, and leadership to gain insight on upcoming issues or trends.
• Conduct daily rounding on new employees, unit secretaries, nurse technicians, registered nurses and preceptors to evaluate and address educational needs on the unit.
• Arrange to round on night shift employees per needs of unit.
• Follow established department policy and procedure in development and execution of program and/or educational activities.
• Attend department staff meetings and implement/incorporate staff meeting minutes into professional work.
• Create an environment in classroom, simulation, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and achieves cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes.
• Assist a wide range of students to develop in their role and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those that fulfill each role.
• Use a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in classroom, simulation and clinical settings.
• Create and/or participate in curricular review of learning plans and curriculum for the following programs: unit monthly education (12 per calendar year), FINALE, RN Residency (as needed) and Patient Care Orientation.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years nursing experience
• Current Missouri Registered Nurse license or current Registered Nurse license from a compact state. If a compact license is held, it must be in the nurse’s state of residence.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Education or Healthcare related field.
