Responsibilities

• Practice guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
• Record patients' medical history and symptoms; perform diagnostic tests and analyze results; operate medical equipment; administer treatment and medications; assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, providing therapies, observing and recording patient status, and consulting with physicians and other clinicians.
• Teach patients and families about managing illnesses or injuries, post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
• Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides; delegate tasks appropriately.
• Support efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills; precept new hires and students.
• Collect health data systematically, prioritize based on patient needs, and involve family in the process.
• Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop individualized, evidence-based care plans that are family-centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant.
• Identify expected outcomes and implement interventions in the plan of care.
• Initiate treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures.
• Provide nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs using a family-centered approach.
• Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data.
• Continuously evaluate the quality and effectiveness of care plans to enhance patient outcomes and cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
• Evaluate personal nursing practice against professional standards, statutes, and regulations; maintain current knowledge in nursing practice.
• Integrate ethical principles into all aspects of practice; enhance cultural and diversity awareness.
• Collaborate with peers and other healthcare providers to foster professional development and quality practice environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
• Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care; participate in and apply research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
• Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care; utilize resources effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing (ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of RN experience).
• Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• 1+ year of RN experience in med-surg or acute specialty setting (required for Float Positions).
• BLS certification (unit-specific certifications as required by specialty).
• State of Arizona RN license or compact state licensure.
• National certification for unit-specific patient population preferred.
