About the Role

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ambulatory surgery center by directing patient care in the ambulatory setting, managing nursing staff, scheduling, training, and evaluations. This role oversees quality improvement, safety, infection control, and compliance programs, while collaborating with leadership and providers to meet patient needs. The Nurse Manager also supports policy development, budgeting, staff education, regulatory readiness, and equipment management, while maintaining professionalism within the center.

Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care in the ambulatory care setting.
  • Provide direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Manage and supervise staff members, including daily staffing schedules.
  • Provide orientation for new staff members and complete yearly evaluations.
  • Designate authority to another RN to uphold policies and procedures when unavailable.
  • Participate in the credentialing of physicians, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff.
  • Consult with staff, physicians, medical director, and administrative director on nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies.
  • Maintain performance improvement activities and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the infection control, emergency preparedness, safety, and quality assurance/risk management programs.
  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of endoscopy equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in establishing policies, procedures, and standards for the ambulatory surgery center based on CMS, DOH, and accreditation bodies.
  • Prepare for and participate in inspections and surveys.
  • Coordinate continuing education activities required for staff competency.
  • Assist in formulating the budget.
  • Maintain professionalism within the center.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current State Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Skills

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patients, families, employees, and physicians.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of telephone etiquette.

Work Environment

This position operates in a gastroenterology ambulatory surgery center.

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity.
  • Involvement with management of information concerning physicians, staff, hospital personnel, and patients.
  • Occasional high-stress situations involving angry or demanding patients and/or personnel.
  • Moderate periods of sitting, walking, standing, lifting, and computer use.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, with an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday. No weekends are required.
