RN - Nurse Manager
About the role
The Nurse Manager will oversee professional nursing care and direct care services for in-patients with developmental disabilities (birth–21 years of age), ensuring compliance with CMS guidelines, the Nurse Practice Act, and State Health Department standards. Responsibilities include medication and treatment administration, documentation, and leadership of nursing and direct care staff.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervises nurses and day/evening/night direct care staff (DCS), approving leave and ensuring appropriate coverage for shifts, emergencies, and field trips.
- Creates and maintains nursing and DCS schedules; assigns staff for patient appointments and field trips.
- Provides leadership and performance feedback through employee reviews; ensures mandatory education and training are current.
- Identifies, coordinates, and delivers additional patient care training and education as needed; participates in hospital-wide orientation and professional development initiatives.
- Investigates patient care issues within designated time frames and presents corrective action recommendations to the Director of Nursing (DON).
- Maintains employee disciplinary records and collaborates with DON and fellow Nurse Managers on patient care, safety, and staffing issues.
- Participates in Nursing Administration on-call rotation to ensure 24-hour coverage; assists unit nurses during critical or emergency situations.
- Reviews and maintains awareness of medical, therapeutic, and behavioral goals for inpatients; coordinates care with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensures compliance with hospital policies for admissions, discharges, and furloughs; conducts daily rounds and communicates updates to staff.
- Serves on multiple committees including Admission Review, Behavior Staffing, Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement, Safety, Infection Control, and others.
- Presents patient medical/nursing information to attending physicians and clinical teams; participates in Nursing QAPI projects and quality improvement initiatives.
- Flexes hours as needed; participates in 24/7 on-call rotation with Nurse Admin staff.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing and an active Oklahoma nursing license.
- Minimum 3 years of professional nursing experience.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- In good standing with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
About J.D. McCarty Center
J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities from birth to 21 years of age. The 36-bed facility provides a 30-day evaluation program with a multidisciplinary treatment team including nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, social services, psychology, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. The 80-acre campus includes an on-site school staffed by Norman Public Schools. In-patient habilitation may continue beyond 30 days based on progress or placement needs.

Pay
Salary range: $65,000 to $85,000 per year, based on experience.
