Job Summary

DCH Health System offers Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Services at both DCH Regional and Northport Medical Centers. The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team including Neonatologists, Neonatal nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, speech therapists, lactation consultants, child life therapists, and social workers.

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) supports a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and provides leadership to other team members. They assess patients, plan and document care, educate patients and families, and coordinate care with other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition on admission and on an ongoing basis
  • Plan and provide patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors
  • Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care
  • Coordinate care planning with patient, family, providers, and other disciplines
  • Assign and delegate nursing care to team members
  • Document observations, care provided, and changes in care plan
  • Participate in transition rounds, care planning/problem identification, and team shift reports
  • Assist in performance improvement activities

Requirements

  • Current approved Alabama Board of Nursing RN license or ability to obtain prior to start
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required or obtain within 30 days of start date
  • BSN preferred, minimum Associates required
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Current ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP certifications (depending on the campus)

Qualifications

  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience in neonatal intensive care preferred
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures

  • Knowledge of neonatal care and relevant medical protocols
