About the role
The RN Navigator Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep works in an outpatient setting to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. They also assume teaching and leadership responsibilities for Pulmonary Lung Nodule Clinic (PNC), Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) nurses, and complete CPAP Mask fittings and teaching for patients.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the referral process and introduction of patients into the PNC, ILD, and Sleep Programs.
- Educates patients and families about the referral process, steps of evaluation, and keeps them informed throughout the process.
- Collaborates with the inter-professional team and others to conduct nursing practice safely and effectively.
- Facilitates testing for oxygen, including ordering and performing 6 min walk tests.
- Assists and delegates to internal staff for tasks such as refills, rooming patients, 6-minute walks, and medication delivery.
- Facilitates patient instruction on CPAP Mask fit and makes necessary changes.
- Facilitates all Durable medical equipment (DME) orders and maintains a list of insurance companies accepted by each DME provider.
- Develops and implements educational materials for patients and families, ensuring consistency and addressing individual learning needs.
- Oversees internal staff education and competencies, and serves as a resource for other nursing units.
- Manages daily monitoring of medication refrigeration, emergency box, sample closet, and logbooks.
- Manages surgical clearance requests and identifies potential topics for research.
- Maintains a database of clinical protocols and follows all required compliance training programs.
- Participates in outreach to current and potential referring physicians.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years clinical RN experience with patient care required; Pulmonary, Sleep, or Critical Care experience preferred.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
