Job Summary
Integrates health care for patients/clients across the continuum of care. Collaborates with healthcare team and other professionals to coordinate and ensure timely sequencing of care. Integration enhances patient flow and interdisciplinary communication promotes early intervention. Supports patients/clients and other family members by removing barriers of care. Seeks to evaluate outcomes based on an integration among established clinical, financial and utilization data.
Duties
- Circulating nurse for Breast biopsy and aspiration procedures
- Educate patient procedures, verify allergies and medications, get radiologists to consent patient prior to procedure
- Discharge instructions
- Follow up phone call with benign results
- Fine needle aspirations - preparation of slides and making aspirate smears
- Responsible for scheduling breast biopsies
- Coordinating with techs and radiologist schedules
- Communicating with primary care providers of patient's biopsy orders and biopsy appointment date
- Notify patient of pathology results if benign and follow up recommendations communicated by the radiologist
- If malignant - will need to coordinate with PCP to have them notify patient and place referral orders
- Notify oncology nursing navigator as well of patient positive results
- Outside referrals - placing orders, radiologist reviews, sending fax/calling nurse to notify them of apt time and date
- Faxing biopsy results
- Circulate for Wire Locs
- Coordinate with surgery and radiologist on appropriate wire loc time and date for patients
- Verify modality of imaging needed to perform wire loc (ultrasound vs mammogram)
- Manage Breast center referrals workque
- Making sure patients appointments are scheduled coordinating with radiology imaging
- Rooming patients for appointments
- Creating follow up breast clinic appointments
- Educating patients about breast MRI’s
- Coordinating breast MRI’s and reviewing breast MRI results with patient/provider
- Identifying high risk breast cancer patients and providing education in regard to resources and breast clinic availability
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing strongly preferred in Bemidji, Marshfield, and Rapid City
- Required in Fargo and Sioux Falls (Sanford USD Medical Center and Clinics)
- Required in Bismarck or enrolled and starting a Bachelor’s degree program within one year of hire with a completion date within three years upon date of hire into position
- Required in Fargo Network and Sioux Falls Network or employees hired after January, 2025, who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree in the required field, leadership may consider an educational plan with proven continuous action toward achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within five years of hire into position
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program, including, but not limited to, those accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA)
- Minimum Of Two Years’ Clinical Experience Preferred
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications
