About the unit: 6 South is a 50-bed Mother/Baby care unit providing care to post-partum mothers and their newborn infants. The team also educates new families to facilitate their transition to a family unit.

About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN), under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients. The RN provides quality care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN partners with patients and families to develop care plans, creates teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients using patient-family centered care principles.
- Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Partner with patients and families to develop and utilize their input and goals in planning care.
- Develop teaching strategies for patients and families.
- Document education and learning appropriately in the health record.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing required.
- Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years if new graduate or nurse with less than one (1) year of experience.
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required or must obtain within 60 days of hire if a new graduate.
- AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years.
- 1-2 years of experience as an RN preferred; new graduates with immersion in Mother Baby Care may be considered.
