About the role
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. They function within the framework of the organization's policies and procedures, demonstrating professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice and coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

Qualifications
Education
- Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Work Experience
- No experience required; new graduates of a nursing program eligible Required
- Nursing experience in a hospital setting Preferred
- 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Georgia State RN license or NLC/eNLC Multistate License Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
- Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum below)
Specialty-Specific Certifications
- Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- Critical Care: ACLS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) Preferred
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents; experienced nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS)
- Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (prior to independent chemotherapy administration)
- Pediatrics:
- Identifies, reports, and provides protective measures for high-risk situations (e.g., abuse, neglect, failure to thrive, potential abduction).
- Piedmont Columbus Hospital: PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- Piedmont Athens Hospital: PEARS or PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- Surgical Services:
- PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU: ACLS; PALS if unit provides pediatric care (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- OR: BLS only (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents)
- Women's Services:
- Labor and Delivery: ACLS (within 180 days for new nurses or nurse residents), NRP by end of orientation, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months
- Mother/Baby: NRP by end of orientation
- NICU: NRP by end of orientation
- NAT (Newborn Admission Team): NRP by end of orientation
- Nursery: NRP by end of orientation
