Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients.
- Function within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrate professional growth and accountability.
- Maintain standards of practice and coordinate patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate from a nursing program required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Work Experience: No experience required for new graduates of a nursing program. Nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred. 1 year in a hospital setting required for PRN positions.
Licenses and Certifications:
- RN - Registered Nurse - Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License required.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required.
- Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum).
Additional Certifications by Specialty
- Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification required within 180 days (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
- Critical Care: ACLS Certification required within 180 days (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
- Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred.
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification required within 180 days (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date; experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS).
- Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification required prior to independent chemotherapy administration upon hire.
- Pediatrics: Identifies, reports and provides appropriate protective measures for high risk situations including abuse or neglect, failure to thrive, and potential for abduction. PALS Certification required within 180 days at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date). PEARS or PALS Certification required within 180 days at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
- Surgical Services: PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU: ACLS required; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date). OR: BLS only required within 180 days.
- Women's Services: Labor and Delivery: ACLS required within 180 days (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date); NRP by end of orientation period; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date. Mother/Baby: NRP by end of orientation period. NICU: NRP by end of orientation period. NAT (Newborn Admission Team): NRP by end of orientation period. Nursery: NRP by end of orientation period.
