About the role
Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
- Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Med Surgical Unit as defined in the scope of service, including age-specific care.
- Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intradepartmentally.
- Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment, monitoring patient care, and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards.
- Attends annual skills presentations, mandatory meetings/in-services (fire, infection control), and regularly scheduled unit meetings.
- Actively participates in quality activities, nursing committees/councils, and other applicable activities related to patient care plans within and beyond hospital care.
Requirements
- Current License in the State of Michigan.
- BLS required.
- ACLS and PALS Certification preferred and required within 12 months of hire.
- Telemetry experience preferred; must complete competency test upon hire and annually or complete an EKG class and testing within 6 months of hire.
- Graduate of a school of Nursing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
- Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
