Job Description
The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) at UofL Health provides comprehensive nursing care to patients across various age groups, utilizing the nursing process and practice standards. Key competencies include nursing practice, leadership, professional profile, and practice outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Conducts systematic assessments of patient health status to ensure safety and collaborate with the healthcare team and patient/family.
- Administers medications safely and documents administration accurately according to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Plans care using scientific knowledge, theory, and care standards, and incorporates data from the multi-disciplinary care team into the plan of care.
- Identifies and prioritizes patient problems, reflecting sensitivity to age, learning needs, and cultural background, and implements nursing care interventions.
- Demonstrates competent skills, clinical judgment, and chain of command to promote patient safety and achieve care goals.
- Teaches patients and families about their care, evaluates teaching outcomes, and collaborates with the care team to revise the plan of care.
- Serves as an advocate for patients and families, respects their rights and preferences, and prepares them for discharge.
- Collaborates with unlicensed assistive healthcare providers, ensuring safe patient care delivery.
- Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and maintains professional competency through continuing education and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
Other Functions
- Demonstrates professional conduct and appearance and is accountable for actions and outcomes.
- Orients new members of the healthcare team and supervises students in performance of assigned duties.
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, and complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Participates in evidence-based practice activities and actively participates in collaborative care.
- Strives to perform duties in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality of care and service.
Education & Experience
- Ancillary requirements: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required), BSN program completion within one to three years of hire (required).
- Experience: Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred), participation in the Nurse Residency program and successful completion of all activities (required).
- Licenses: Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required).
- Certifications: Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas).
