About the Role
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lake Pointe in Rowlett, TX is a community-based hospital with all the benefits of an urban medical center. Lake Pointe is licensed for 176 beds and carries multiple designations including Level III Trauma, Chest Pain Accreditation, Primary Stroke Accreditation, Maternal and Level III NICU. Nursing is on their journey towards Pathways to Excellence and will seek Magnet designation once they complete Pathways.
Unit Details
- Patient Population: Medical, Surgical, Telemetry
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Number of Rooms: 32
- Shift: Full-Time Nights
- Environment: Fast-paced unit with high acuity patients; leadership fosters learning, mentoring, and team building
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs
- Create, implement, and evaluate care plans; adjust plans to reach desired outcomes
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism
- Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members; empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices
- Assess and document learning needs regularly
- Collaborate with colleagues and community to create care plans; delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly
- Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff
- Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery
- Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth
- Contribute to peers' development and demonstrate community service commitment
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current RN License
- Minimum of 1 year of true, recent Medical, Surgical, Telemetry RN experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures
- Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area; understand hospital procedures and rules
- Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects
- Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
- Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing
- Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with diverse parties
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking
- Basic computer skills, encompassing Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email
