About the Unit

6 Center is a fast-paced 34-bed unit where nurses care for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses or surgical patients with medical complications, offering excellent learning opportunities. The care environment allows nurses to develop exceptional clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team to meet the needs of complex medical patients. The unit has an active Professional Nurse Council, and staff nurses participate in unit decisions through a Shared Governance Model.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN), under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patient care
  • Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures
  • Recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes
  • Partnering with and utilizing patient/family input and goals in planning care
  • Developing teaching strategies for patients and families
  • Documenting education and learning appropriately in the health record

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing Required
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing Required within 5 years for Graduate Nurses (GN) or RNs with less than 1 year of experience
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license Required within 60 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire from one of the following organizations: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke

  • Employment Type: Full time
  • Shift: Night (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.)
  • Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36
  • Days Worked: Variable
  • Weekend Frequency: Every third weekend
