About the unit: 5 North is a twenty-eight-bed orthopedic unit specializing in adult patients with musculoskeletal problems that may require surgical intervention. The unit provides 24-hour collaborative patient care within an interdisciplinary team, including trauma mid-level providers, physical and occupational therapists, nursing assistants, and case managers. It has the capability for 4 telemetry beds and is Joint Commission certified for hip and knee replacement surgery.

About the role
The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients, as well as recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN partners with patients and families to develop care plans, creates teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and manage patient care and discharge processes.
- Incorporate patient-family centered care principles and recognize their impact on patient outcomes.
- Develop and document teaching strategies for patient/family education.
- Partner with patients and families to set goals and plan care.
Qualifications
- Associate’s in Nursing (Required).
- Bachelor’s in Nursing (Required within 5 years).
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required).
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required upon hire).
- Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years.
