About the role

Caregivers at Mentor Hospital’s Med/Surg Unit provide care to adult patients with a variety of medical issues or patients preparing for or recovering from surgery. Med/surg caregivers care for a broad spectrum of patients, giving them a vast and broad clinical skillset. As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care by interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
• Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• One year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting (will consider military RN experience).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Schedule

This position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $35.50 to $55.60 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
