Our Oncology unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building for every team member.

About the Unit

  • Patient Population: Med/Surg/Tele, PCU, Oncology, Chemo, Postop surgery (breast, bladder, lung, colon, and crani), Cardiac drips, Palliative Care (end of life and hospice support)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4 for Chemo; 1:5 for Med/Tele
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Department Specifics: Active Unit Based Council, Pharmacist and Social Worker on the unit during the day to partner with nurses in patient care, Multidisciplinary Team collaboration, Chemotherapy training required within the first 90 days
  • Shift: Full-time Nights, 7pm-7am
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period

  • Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Only Level II Trauma Center in Northeast Tarrant County

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model, including patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses
  • Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare
  • Help patients and prevent issues while adhering to the Texas Nursing Practice Act
  • Delegate tasks based on patient condition and team competencies
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting to reach desired outcomes
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower better healthcare choices
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community to create care plans
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly
  • Use problem-solving strategies with patients, families, and staff
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth
  • Contribute to peers' development and show commitment to community service

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • RN license
  • BLS certification (must obtain within 30 days of starting)
  • 2 years of Med/Surg experience; PCU experience preferred

  • Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, procedures, and laws
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and side effects
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive social skills for interactions with diverse parties
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, email)
