RN Manager Adult Infusion Center on the Peninsula

About the role

The Adult Infusion Services Nurse Manager assists the team of Patient Care Managers and Director in ensuring the quality of patient care in the Adult Infusion Services across the Peninsula – San Mateo and Burlingame/Peninsula Outpatient Center campuses. This position is responsible for all aspects of the operation, including but not limited to recruiting, selecting, hiring and training staff, coaching and counseling, and completion of performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Manages the patient care delivery system to assure quality care, patient safety, standard work and compliance with internal policy, external regulations and accepted practices across the continuum of care.
  • Allocates environmental, technical and staffing resources.
  • May also manage the fiscal and administrative operations.
    • Oversees applicable safety standards and protocols for the handling, administering, and disposing of hazardous medications and chemotherapy in the outpatient setting.
    • Assures development and effective functioning of charge nurse role.
    • Works closely with pharmacy leads to establish efficient workflows to ensure high quality timely and accurate care.
• Represents assigned clinics or centers on task forces or committees.
  • Participates to develop new programs, review technology improvements, design quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, etc.
    • Supports unit based councils and committees to promote staff participation and contributions to unit quality and safety.
    • Utilizes Lean methodology to support performance improvement initiatives in all centers.
• Develops staff in collaborative decision making and shared governance to ensure a shared voice in clinical care practice, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved clinical and patient-care outcomes.
• Manages patient care in a cost effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization.
  • Plans and is accountable for the annual operative and capital budget for areas of responsibility.
    • Manages staff within flex budget parameters.
    • Affirms compliance with treatment coding/billing/documentation through best practice, audits, and ongoing training and evaluation of systems.
    • Affirms ongoing management of off-label, non-peer reviewed orders for drugs to assure reimbursement.
• Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline and staff development.
  • Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives.
• Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level.
• Keeps abreast of and implements new or changing patient care standards of practice, scope of practice, competency development and assessment, policies and procedures and new programs.
  • Collaborates with physicians and develops proposals for improvements to clinic services, policies or procedures.
    • Plans and coordinates agenda and trainers for clinical annual review.
    • Ensures nursing staff maintain required chemotherapy/biotherapy provider cards for chemo administration.
    • Identifies and coordinates ongoing training and education needs that support evidenced-based practice.
• Collaborates and provides input, or may manage operational functions to include marketing, patient service standards, facilities and fiscal planning.
• Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of health care clinicians in efforts to develop healthcare policies, practice standards and improve services.
