Responsibilities
- Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Cantata Adult Life Services and the facility.
- Captures and communicates all unit activities for assigned shift.
- Coordinates all nursing staff activities on his/her shift.
- Establishes and monitors the completion of assignments for all C.N.A.s (treatment nurses if applicable).
- Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of resident care performed.
- Maintains and adjusts the nursing schedule to meet the needs of the residents.
- Performs routine nursing tasks, including medication administration and treatment administration, according to the care plan.
- Conducts resident assessments and completes appropriate nursing documentation, such as RAPI, MDS, and Care Planning Process, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participates in the Care Planning Process either directly or by ensuring that Care Plans are followed and updated as necessary.
- Coordinates shift-to-shift communication of significant nursing information using procedures and forms established by CANTATA.
- Affirms that sufficient supplies and equipment are available for provision of resident care.
- Makes written and oral reports as required to physicians, pharmacists, therapists, and other providers of service to ensure proper follow-through of orders, coordination of care services, and communication of nursing observations.
- Affirms that the appropriate plans of action to correct identified quality deficiencies are followed through in a timely manner as directed by the Q/A team.
- Assists with the Quality Assurance Program in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified quality deficiencies.
- Acts on behalf of the Chief Nursing Administrator or Clinical Nurse Manager in his/her absence.
- Consistently demonstrates an ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner.
- Attends in-services, meetings, and educational training in accordance with CANTATA’s policies and procedures.
- Performs tasks/duties and utilizes forms in accordance with CANTATA’s policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Current valid certification as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and to supervise other personnel.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to motivate and lead individuals and groups with diverse needs and abilities.
- Aptitude for detail work.
- Basic computer literacy.
- The ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- The ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
- The ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- The ability to maintain good personnel relations and employee morale.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
- Subject to callback during emergency conditions and may be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents.
- Works in residents’ rooms and areas designated for nursing care.
- Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks, and climbs stairs, as needed to conduct nursing activities.
- Exposure Classification: Category I (routine exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues).
- Routine exposure to chemicals which are identified for use in the nursing department.
