About the role

An LPN Charge Nurse oversees nursing staff and ensures high-quality care for residents in a nursing home setting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily activities of nursing aides and other LPNs, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide direct resident care, including bathing, dressing, and personal care tasks.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans based on residents' needs and medical conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, including medical histories, treatment plans, and health condition changes.
  • Act as a liaison between residents, families, and the healthcare team to ensure clear communication about care and health status changes.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new nursing staff, providing resources and information about policies and procedures.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid or necessary interventions, and coordinate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance facility care and address patient care issues.
  • Order and manage medications for residents, ensuring accurate prescription filling and administration per the healthcare plan.
  • Ensure all care practices comply with state regulations and facility policies, maintaining a safe and clean environment for residents.

Requirements

  • Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Texas State Board of Nursing (accredited program + NCLEX-PN exam).
  • At least 1-2 years of nursing experience.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills for supervising staff and coordinating patient care.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (CPR may be required).
  • Familiarity with state regulations and nursing home policies to ensure compliance and quality care.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for quick assessment and action in nursing environments.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and training to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices.
  • Compassion and patience for elderly patients and their families.
