Shift/Schedule: PRN Days, 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM

About the Role

Our Labor and Delivery unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. The unit features:

  • 10 Labor and Delivery Suites
  • 4 obstetrical emergency beds
  • 2 operating rooms
  • 2 PACU beds
  • 5 high-risk antepartum beds

Patient Population: Level III Maternal and Neonatal Designation.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize patient needs and create, implement, and assess care plans to achieve outcomes, adapting as necessary.
  • Observe indicators closely and support evidence-based changes with research and hands-on learning.
  • Create a caring, safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Build relationships with boundaries in mind, focusing on managing emotional and physical pain to promote healing and reduce suffering.
  • Facilitate learning for all members of the healthcare team, including patients, families, and nursing staff, ensuring everyone is well-informed.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and the community to develop and execute an integrated plan of care.
  • Use problem-solving strategies and utilize available resources to support patients, family, and staff as part of a systems-thinking approach.
  • Diagnose patient responses to health issues and create care plans accordingly, including evaluating healthcare needs and responses.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years L&D RN experience
  • A degree from a recognized nursing program or two years of relevant work experience
  • Valid Registered Nurse license
  • Ability to obtain a Basic Life Support certification within the first 30 days of employment

Skills

  • Familiarity with nursing and patient care standards and procedures
  • Awareness of legal requirements and standards of certification and accreditation bodies
  • Good command of medical terminology, with a focus on healthcare promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention
  • Effective communication skills and social aptitude for interacting with diverse stakeholders
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Capability to identify and report changes in patient conditions, develop, and modify patient care plans as required
  • Basic computer skills necessary for day-to-day assignments
