RN - L&D (inpatient)

About the role

At Carle Foundation Hospital, our Labor & Delivery department is a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families. With over 3,000 deliveries each year, our team handles everything from routine births to medically complex cases. You will join a collaborative multidisciplinary group that includes obstetricians, maternal-fetal specialists, certified nurse midwives, and anesthesia providers, delivering patient-centered care that combines the latest evidence-based practices with personalized attention.

The unit features 13 private rooms, 3 operating rooms, a 3-bay recovery room, and 3-bay OB ED post-6 private rooms. On-call staff members are expected to report to work within one hour or the amount of time it takes to drive in from home plus 15 minutes (not to exceed 90 minutes) upon notification of need.

Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
• Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
• Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implements and modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
• Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicates directly and privately to resolve issues, offers constructive feedback, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
• Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to address them.
• Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
• Provides care to the inpatient obstetric patient, including:
  • Monitoring fetal well-being
  • Administering medication specific to the obstetric patient
  • Providing patient education specific to the obstetric population
  • Participating in the intrapartum care of the patient and newborn in labor, delivery, and surgical delivery

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• Associate's Degree in Nursing

Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year – American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $38.93 per hour to $63.35 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
