Job Summary

Infusion nurses administer medications and fluids ensuring correct dosage, route and flow rates. They monitor and observe patients for allergic/adverse reactions during and after delivery of these medications and take appropriate action if required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocols, including vital signs up to every 15 minutes and physician orders.
  • Makes and monitors insertion and maintenance of peripheral IV catheters, chemports, PICC lines, central line dressing changes, and lab collections from peripheral sticks or central lines.
  • Assesses and documents an evaluation of each patient's physical, social, and emotional status as part of the outpatient admissions process to the infusion center protocols.
  • Carries out nursing assessments, clinical notes, and billing responsibilities.
  • Conducts patient education regarding the infusion process, medications, possible side effects, follow-ups, and discharge instructions.
  • Daily reviews charts for new, incomplete, or unsigned orders, results of labs, or vaccinations required for certain medications, and appropriate follow-ups scheduled.
  • Collaborates with providers from various departments when providing patient care.
  • Maintains an effective communication channel with healthcare teams and reports any unusual occurrences.
  • Manages inventory and complies with TJC standards.

Qualifications

  • Licensed as RN for one (1) year or more.
  • Valid RN license.
  • Nursing experience in infusion.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, crouching/stooping, kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking.

Work Conditions

  • Full-time position.
  • No benefits eligibility.
  • No grant funding.
