About the Role

Western State Hospital is recruiting internally for an RN-II Shift Supervisor to provide quality nursing care and a safe therapeutic environment for a specific patient population, utilizing knowledge base and experience through the nursing process. This recruitment is for the below units and shifts:

  • 1 Hickory – 1st/2nd shift
  • 2 Hickory – 3rd/1st shift
  • 2 Elm – 2nd/3rd shift

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a safe, therapeutic environment for a specific patient population in a 24-hour 7 day a week psychiatric hospital that conforms to care and treatment policies and procedures and demonstrates knowledge of population specific needs and competencies
  • Provide quality care as a part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Maintain accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment
  • Create healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions unit, geriatric unit, and extended rehabilitation service unit
  • Observe and report feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical and emotional wellbeing, and other situations
  • Document and communicate
  • Use specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery
  • Facilitate discharge to a less restrictive setting by assisting patients to improve and/or maintain their physical, mental and social functioning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current RN license that is eligible to be utilized in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Must be a current WSH Employee for at least one year (waived to 6 months with current RNC's recommendation)
  • Must currently hold a minimum of a RN II position
  • Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff
  • Effective communication (written, verbal and sign)
  • Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
  • Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24-hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital which at times may mean working a 16-hour shift if and when necessary
  • Complete all annual competency training to include TOVA III with physical restraints
  • Complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association
  • Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care

Additional Considerations

  • Bachelor's and Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or higher education
  • Psych Nursing Experience
  • Veteran or Spouse of Veteran
  • Bilingual – Spanish

Pay

Salary range is a minimum of $93,000 up to a maximum of $124,000.
