Bring your leadership skills beyond the bedside in this Full-Time Weekend Option (WEO) House Supervisor opportunity with BJC HealthCare. In this hospital-wide leadership role, you'll serve as the on-site nursing leader, supporting staffing operations, patient throughput, and clinical excellence across Progress West Hospital and Barnes-J Jewish St. Peters Hospital. As a key operational resource, you'll collaborate with nursing leaders, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams while responding to rapid responses, patient concerns, falls, staffing needs, and other hospital-wide priorities. Every shift offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care and hospital operations.
Position Highlights
Full-Time Weekend Option (WEO) schedule
Night Shift: 3 12s 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM every Saturday and Sunday night
One additional night shift per weekFixed/set schedule (non-rotating)
Hospital-wide leadership and operational oversight
Support staffing coordination, patient flow, and patient safety initiatives
Holiday rotation required: One summer holiday and one major winter holiday (holiday eve and/or holiday day) annually. Recognition through BJC Bravo, Connections Groups, and Thrive well-being
Preferred Experience
2–4+ years of acute care RN experience
Previous Charge Nurse or House Supervisor experience preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and critical-thinking skills
Experience managing patient flow, staffing, and operational challenges
ACLS preferred
BSN preferred
Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care. Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks. Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics. Nursing Resources supports administration and other leaders of the organization in ensuring the daily operations of the hospital run efficiently.
Role Purpose
The House Supervisor is delegated the authority and responsibility for administrative supervision of patient care and other hospital departments, serving as a representative of Administration in the absence of the Administrator during off shifts. Acts as a liaison with departments and/or consults with Administrator on call to handle unusual circumstances, appropriate resources, and investigate and resolve clinical problems/complaints.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans.
Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
Supervises the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care across the organization.
Effectively responds to special circumstances and acts as the on site leader.
Assists with patient care operations and integration of services between departments.
Assists in the clinical development of nursing staff, including observing and coaching staff in performance of clinical duties and interpersonal interactions and monitoring staff and unit compliance in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Functions as a liaison between Administration and all departments and customers.
Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's Nursing
Experience: 2-5 years Supervisor Experience
Licenses & Certifications: RN Preferred
Education: Bachelor's Degree Nursing
