About the role
The House Supervisor - Per Diem position at UC San Diego Health is responsible for overseeing nursing activities on the shift, serving as an administrative and clinical resource, and managing staffing and disciplinary actions.
Responsibilities
- Serves as administrative and clinical resource person for hospital administration and nursing administration throughout the shift.
- Serves as clinical resource person and provides clinical support for all areas of inpatient nursing during the shift.
- Collaborates with nurse managers and charge nurses in planning on-shift and incoming shift staffing.
- Manages hiring, interviewing, and performance appraisals of new employees.
- Trains and assigns work to new and existing employees within the department.
- Makes recommendations concerning merit increases and classification reviews.
- Performs disciplinary action, up to dismissal, in consultation with HR/LR.
- Represents the department or organization in grievance hearings, administrative reviews, or arbitrations.
- Leads quality of care activities, safety programs, and supports evidence-based practice teams.
- Ensures currency in licensure and annual mandated regulatory competencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
- Current BART/ART or BLS/CPR and/or ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience, including at least three (3) years of recent working RN experience in an acute care environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in an acute care setting.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritizing skills.
- Proven hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
- Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events, and ability to problem-solve with critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation regulations.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
- Able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications
- MSN preferred, with clinical area specialty certification or Nursing Administration Certification.
- Recent ED, ICU, and/or NP experience preferred.
- Leverage Lean Six Sigma training.
- Recent or current RN experience at UC San Diego Health preferred.

Pay
Hiring Pay Scale: $87.50 - $99.00 / Hour
Annual Full Pay Range: $136,600 - $267,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $65.42 - $128.16
