RN First Assist - Operating Room

About the role

The RN First Assist (RNFA) supports surgeons during general and specialized surgeries, ensuring safe procedures and optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with surgical procedures, including controlling bleeding, suturing, draping, and tissue handling.
  • Prepare operating rooms by organizing trays, instrumentation, and supplies.
  • Position and prepare patients for surgery, monitor vital signs, and provide post-operative assessments.
  • Administer medications, educate patients and families on procedures and aftercare, and communicate patient status.
  • Participate in research, monitor surgical sites for healing or infection, and ensure efficient OR operations.
  • Possess the ability to scrub and circulate based on departmental needs, assisting with room turnover and equipment management.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Completion of nursing education and experience in surgical services nursing.

Skills

  • Independent perioperative assessment and post-operative evaluation skills.
  • Ability to perform surgical procedures, monitor patient health, and collaborate with OR team.
