The Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care in a high-acuity emergency care setting, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation to provide safe and effective care for patients across the lifespan.
Responsibilities
- Performs triage and prioritizes patient care based on acuity
- Conducts age-appropriate assessments and reassessments of all patients
- Administers medications, performs procedures, and manages critical drips
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures in the emergency department
- Monitors hemodynamic status and interprets cardiac rhythms
- Documents care, treatment, assessments, and education accurately and timely
- Applies infection control and sterile technique practices consistently
- Educates patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions
- Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team for optimal care delivery
- Responds calmly and professionally in high-stress, life-threatening situations
Requirements
- Knowledge of emergency nursing protocols, trauma care, and critical interventions
- Skilled in interpreting ECGs, managing IVs, and operating emergency equipment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations and multitask effectively
- Proficient in EMR systems and clinical documentation tools
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Demonstrates professionalism, clinical judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing Diploma program accepted
- Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within time frame stated in facility policy
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required within time frame stated in facility policy
- Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) preferred
- Emergency nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Demonstrated ability to function under pressure and respond effectively to critical situations
