RN Educator- Registered Nurse: Endocrinology
About the role
MercyOne Waterloo Endocrinology Care is seeking a Registered Nurse Educator to join their team. This position provides diabetes education and counseling to clients at Waterloo Medical Center as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Provides assessment, teaching and follow-up instruction to program participants in individual and group settings.
- Receives referrals from patient, physician or patient care staff.
- Receives and returns calls from clients to provide educational assistance and emotional support.
- Selects and demonstrates procedures, techniques and devices.
- Conducts initial needs assessment.
- Develops plan of care based on identified concerns or problems.
- Collaborates with physicians regarding education provided, follow-up plan and next physician visit.
- Documents education provided for inpatients on patient medical record.
- Documents extensive client conversations as appropriate.
- Facilitates ongoing development of services.
- Reviews and updates educational materials/curriculum.
- Reviews patient satisfaction data and incorporates learnings to improve services.
- Affords assistance with the formal review of program on an annual basis.
Requirements
- Associate Degree: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelor's Degree: Preferred.
- Current Iowa RN license or licensure/certification in field of study.
- IBCLC certification preferred.
- BLS.
- Mandatory Reporter.
- 0 – 2 years: Minimum of 2 years maternal child nursing experience; patient education experience preferred.

Schedule
Full time, 40 hours per week. Office hours are 8:30-5:00. No weekends or holidays.
Qualifications
Must have a current Iowa RN license or licensure/certification in field of study. IBCLC certification preferred. BLS. Mandatory Reporter. 0 – 2 years: Minimum of 2 years maternal child nursing experience; patient education experience preferred.

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, and proficiency in diabetes education and counseling.
