Elderwood is seeking an RN Educator to lead orientation, education, and ongoing competency development for our nursing and clinical teams - ensuring excellence, compliance, and confidence at every level of care.
This role also serves as the primary Instructor for the Nursing Assistant Training Program (NATP).
Responsibilities
- Act as a clinical “super user” for the EMR and serve as a resource for facility staff.
- Schedule, teach, and lead BLS and IV certification programs; maintain equipment and records.
- Perform staff vaccinations, health screenings, and other medical testing as assigned.
- Collaborate with Unit Managers, Nurse Preceptors, Nurse Consultants, and assist with annual clinical skills competency testing for licensed nursing staff.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for Nurse Preceptors and new nurses during department-based orientation.
- Coordinate and/or lead delivery of corporate mandatory in-service education for facility staff.
- Plan and lead the General Orientation Program to acquaint new personnel with the facility.
- Coordinate program development, implementation, and documentation of the NATP - Nursing Assistant Training Program; serve as an instructor for scheduled classes.
- Coordinate Prometric testing for Nursing Assistant Trainees and record certification.
- Schedule and deliver CNA and Support Aide orientation programs based on hiring needs.
- Schedule and present training programs to ensure Nursing Assistants complete six (6) hours of in-service education every six (6) months.
- Oversee tracking of in-service education hours and generate reports utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Enroll staff in LMS programs and track module completion and compliance.
- Serve as an instructor for the licensed nurse orientation program at designated sites when needed.
- Coordinate department-based orientation programs for new staff with management.
- Plan, coordinate, and present regular and special education sessions for nursing staff on new practices, procedures, policies, or skills.
- Prepare monthly in-service education calendar and monthly report.
- Coordinate and schedule periodic emergency drills (fire, disaster, Code Blue) and maintain records.
- Attend facility staff meetings and lead in-service education sessions.
Requirements
- Credentials of a Registered Professional Nurse with a current NYS license required.
- Baccalaureate degree preferred.
- Experience in in-service education or skills in teaching; at least one year of experience in a long-term health care facility required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with personnel at all levels required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Personal qualities of enthusiasm, interest in residents' needs, and commitment to quality assurance.
- Ability to perform tasks to established standards of excellence.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or advanced level.
