About the Role

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, accreditation standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System’s Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care based on the Nursing Process and established standards.
• Demonstrate competency through knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for the position.
• Adhere to professional nursing standards, including the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
• Supervise LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
• Complete required certifications and training specific to assigned specialty area within designated timeframes.
• Participate in de-escalation training as required.

Requirements

• Graduate from an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
• Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification upon hire and/or transfer.
• Specialty certifications required for specific units (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC) within 12–18 months of hire.
• Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.
• Proficiency in using computers, office technology, MS Outlook, and Word.
• Ability to apply clinical judgment to a patient population of all ages.

Physical Demands

• Moderately active work involving frequent movement within the facility and occasional travel to other SRHS locations.

• Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues with potential infectious disease hazards.
• Repetitive motions, including wrist, hand, and finger movements (e.g., typing, computer use).
• Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine auditory discriminations.
• Close visual acuity to shift focus between computer monitors and printed materials.
• Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
• Flexibility to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, or weekends as needed.
