RN Critical Care Weekend Option

Provides direct and indirect care to patients through assessment, plan of care creation and implementation, and coordination with other care providers within the hospital system. Guides nursing care in the critical care departments and supports personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements a written plan of care addressing the specific needs and goals of each patient, including referrals to other professional services as required.
  • Modifies the plan of care based on reassessment of the patient, observed response to treatment, and evaluation of progress toward goals. Delegates tasks to team members within their scope of practice.
  • Observes, documents, and implements planned interventions, communicating the plan to all team members through accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation and verbal reports as needed.
  • Documents accurate patient information in compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with medical procedures as prescribed by treating physicians.
  • Maintains working knowledge of equipment and procedures utilized in the critical care setting.
  • Administers medications accurately and timely according to physician orders and organizational policy, maintaining knowledge of medication actions, side effects, and allergic reactions.
  • Successfully transitions patients through walking rounds and provides accurate, timely reports to incoming staff.
  • Advises physicians, other disciplines, and family/significant others of changes in patient’s condition or abnormal findings with clear and concise communication.
  • Provides clear, specific educational and discharge information to patients and/or family members.
  • May precept new employees and oversee other members of the care team. Attends department meetings.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license valid to practice in Indiana.
  • Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) within six months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Minimum: Associate of Science from an accredited school of nursing by date of hire.
    • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum: None.
    • Preferred: Two years of experience.
