RN Coordinator - Operating Room

Primary location: Thompson Peak Medical Center, 7400 E Thompson Peak Pkwy, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. $20,000 sign-on bonus available.

About the role

The Perioperative RN Coordinator assists with the coordination and overall management of specific services. They actively interface with physicians to provide customer service at the point of care, assess, plan, and evaluate material, staff, and patient-specific care to coordinate specialty activities. The role includes providing direct patient care, functioning within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse, and demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. The incumbent may spend up to 50% of their time performing in-service and orientations, serving as a role model and demonstrating clinical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the Nursing Process to assess, identify, interpret, and document patient and/or significant others' self-care and teaching needs using a variety of assessment tools.
• Plan, initiate, and maintain a comprehensive individualized patient plan of care, including discharge planning, in collaboration with the patient, significant others, and the healthcare team.
• Establish measurable specialty goals and objectives, assist in capital budget preparation, plan for staffing with the Supervisor, and address special patient needs related to equipment.
• Implement the plan of care from perioperative admission to discharge, demonstrating clinical competency, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Perform effective interventions for unit/patient care crises or emergency situations.
• Input and document pertinent information; provide frontline inventory control and assist with ordering.
• Coordinate patient care in the perioperative setting and facilitate communications with patients, families, and physicians.
• Assist with interviewing prospective employees and conduct monthly specialty meetings.
• Evaluate the response of patients and significant others to nursing interventions and revise the plan of care as needed.
• Assist with performance evaluations of staff and recommend disciplinary action.
• Coordinate patient care activities and physician-specific requests; ensure availability of supplies and equipment for surgery.
• Facilitate the availability of all needed resources for surgery within assigned service line(s).
• Utilize material resources cost-effectively and recommend cost-saving measures.
• Use evidence-based knowledge in decision-making to improve and maintain high-quality care.
• Assist in capital planning for assigned service line(s).
• Maintain unit and other regulatory educational requirements.
• Participate in continuing education, quality improvement activities, and support membership in professional organizations.
• Implement staff development programs along with the Clinical Educator; responsible for orientation of new personnel, students, and others to the specialty.
• Participate in planning, orienting, teaching, guiding, and evaluating the performance of staff and students.
• Serve as a resource to others, including physicians, patients, families, caregivers, and visitors.
• Assist, consult, and serve as a resource to the healthcare team.
• May dedicate up to 50% of the role to orientation duties, with proportional reduction in other responsibilities.
• In collaboration with the Perioperative Clinical Educator:
  • Assist in identifying orientation needs of new and existing employees.
  • Track education requirements to ensure regulatory needs are met.
  • Assist in developing orientation schedules for new employees.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental in-services to meet regulatory needs.
  • Formulate departmental orientation and communication tools; participate in process improvement mechanisms.
  • Assist in providing orientation activities to meet the needs of new employees.
  • Assist in the provision of training programs developed by others for assigned staff.
• Promote quality patient care by practicing and promoting existing policies using effective communication, cooperation, and teamwork.
• Assist in the clinical development of staff specialty skills.
• Promote staff talent by encouraging involvement in clinical professional activities.
• Assist in monitoring and documenting new employee orientation progress.
• Monitor regulatory lists to ensure staff compliance and maintain current documentation.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills when interacting with co-workers, physicians, and family members.
• Maintain current knowledge of HonorHealth standards, patient care technology, and agency regulations.
• Maintain flexibility in scheduling hours to meet educational and clinical needs of all shifts.
• Maintain certification requirements.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s Diploma in Nursing (Required). Bachelor’s degree (Preferred).
• 2 years of RN experience (Required).
• 2 years as a Perioperative Nurse (OR, Preop/PACU, Endo) (Required).
• 1–2 years of experience in a specialty (Preferred).

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (Required upon hire).
• Valid Driver’s License (Required upon hire if in Home Health).
• Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure and/or compact state licensure (Required upon hire).

Schedule

4-day, 10-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday.
