UNC Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse II OR) to join the team in the 4th floor Operating Room. This role is ideal for candidates with at least 1 year of OR nursing experience, particularly with general, oral maxillofacial, or burn surgery patient populations.

About the Role

This is a per diem, at-will position requiring the ability to work at least 12 hours every two weeks. The schedule excludes nights, weekends, and UNC-recognized holidays.

  • Number of ORs: 5
  • Service Lines: Burn, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Adult Dental, Pulmonary, and GI

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards.
  • Coordinate and deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
  • Education: Identify and meet learning needs; attend relevant education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn and developmental level of patients/families/caregivers.
  • Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; revise plan of care with guidance; participate in interdisciplinary team discussions; communicate relevant information for continuity of care.
  • Implementation: Demonstrate competence in care for patients with complex problems (physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects); perform bedside point-of-care testing; utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards; organize and prioritize care; consult appropriate resources for complex care issues.
  • Leadership: Develop professional goals with assistance; achieve goals within identified timeframes; promote intra/interdepartmental collaboration; participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities; use communication systems effectively; promote cost-effective care; provide feedback to co-workers; stay aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities; assess physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to advocate for patient needs.
  • Planning: Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
  • Research: Read relevant journals and articles; bring ideas and questions to staff for applicability assessment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • One (1) year of nursing experience.

Pay

Salary Range: $35.94 - $54.96 per hour (Hiring range determined by experience and internal equity).

Schedule

  • Per diem position with a requirement to work at least 12 hours every two weeks.
  • Day shift; no nights, weekends, or UNC-recognized holidays.

This is a State position employed by UNC Health Care System with UNC Health benefits. Onsite work location: Chapel Hill, NC.
