About the Role

We are looking for a Charge Nurse for our Sub Acute Unit at Brighton. New Graduate Nurses are welcome and encouraged to participate in our new Nurse Residency Program. As a new graduate registered nurse at Spaulding, you will have the opportunity to participate in our 12-month Nurse Residency Program, which supports and strengthens your skills through professional development, mentoring, and in-depth training to ensure a successful transition into the practice environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care according to the philosophy and standards of the Department of Nursing, utilizing appropriate clinical skills to integrate and implement the nursing process with the plan of care.
• Function as a clinical resource for the patient, providing direction and support to ensure team goals and patient-driven outcomes.
• Complete nursing assessments accurately and timely in accordance with practice standards.
• Develop and implement a plan of care that reflects the needs and goals of the patient.
• Provide, evaluate, and modify nursing care to achieve goals and objectives.
• Complete patient care documentation per established standards.
• Administer medications safely and according to professional standards, nursing policies, and procedures.
• Transcribe or acknowledge doctors' orders and carry them out as directed.
• Coordinate nursing care activities in collaboration with other care team members to facilitate achievement of patient goals.
• Assess patient education needs and provide education related to the disease process, underlying disability, medication, and preparation for discharge to help patients and families develop self-care skills.
• Mentor and teach healthcare team members as needed.
• Actively participate in team conferences and meetings to achieve stated goals.
• Complete additional department, organization, or network activities per established objectives.

Requirements

• Current license from the Massachusetts Board of Registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate is required.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.

Skills

• Effective verbal, electronic, and written communication skills using the English language.
• Computer proficiency required; Microsoft Office applications preferred with the ability to learn new software.
• Maintain a variable work schedule to meet department needs (evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and travel).
• Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with a diverse population.

The role involves various physical activities and environmental exposures:

• Work Environment: Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious/contagious diseases, cleaning agents/chemicals, and noisy equipment.
