RN Charge - DeKalb Acute Medical Care Unit - FT - 3rd Shift

About the role

Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work. Assists in coordinating semi-annual disaster drills. Oversees departmental quality data and inputs information accordingly. Plays a primary role in Chest Pain and Stroke accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Directs, organizes, and assigns work to nurses and other healthcare personnel.
• Assesses, monitors, and educates on patient care.
• Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
• Coordinates semi-annual disaster drills.
• Oversees departmental quality data and inputs information accordingly.
• Plays a primary role in Chest Pain and Stroke accreditation.
• Serves as a resource for staff in the delivery of patient care.
• Ensures compliance with nursing practice standards and departmental policies.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
• At least 3-5 years of clinical experience, Charge Nurse experience preferred.
• Licensure as a registered nurse.
• Ability to communicate professionally with patients, families, other departments within the facility, and outside agencies.
• Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shift.
• Uses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Two years experience in applicable specialty area.
• Licensed by Alabama Board of Nursing.
• Current BLS, ACLS certification.

Skills

• Specialty certification recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in the applicable area of practice.
