About the Role
Join our team as a night shift, full-time RN Charge Nurse at INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. INTEGRIS Health, Oklahoma’s largest not-for-profit health system, is seeking a dedicated caregiver to partner with people to live healthier lives.
Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management and operations of the nursing unit, including patient safety, patient throughput, and caregiver safety and accountability.
- Supervise and direct the activities on the nursing units, coordinate assignments, and collaborate with physicians and internal/external entities to deliver safe patient care.
- Deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- May be required to float to other units, though this should be the exception and not the rule.
- Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact.
- Assist caregivers with standards of care, involving educators and/or supervisors when necessary.
- Ensure caregiver assignments are safe and know the escalation process when needed.
- Facilitate unit performance improvement processes as directed by leadership.
- Supervise and coordinate the delegation and implementation of patient care by licensed and non-licensed personnel for the assigned shift/area.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for medical staff on the shift for nursing questions or concerns, including rounding with medical staff when the primary nurse is unavailable.
- Manage patient assignments and unit workflow.
- Assist with patient flow by timely accepting new admissions and ensuring timely discharges.
- Project staffing needs for the upcoming 12 and 24 hours and escalate issues as needed.
- Ensure caregivers take lunches and entitled breaks by assigning buddy systems or relieving for lunch.
- Perform safety huddles using huddle boards prior to every shift and ensure consistent bedside shift reports.
- Remind caregivers of hourly rounding when prompted by technology.
- Make patient rounds, ensuring white boards are up-to-date and high-risk patients (e.g., fall risks) have appropriate prevention tactics in place.
- Engage in crucial conversations when caregivers are not fulfilling expectations.
Requirements
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma.
- Associate of Science in Nursing required; BSN preferred within two years of accepting the position.
- Current BLS certification upon accepting the role.
- Department-specific competencies will be completed during the orientation process.
