About the Unit

The Critical Care Unit (CCU) is an 18-bed mixed ICU managing adult surgical, trauma, neuro, medical, and cardiothoracic/vascular patients. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 and adjusted for acuity throughout the shift. Residents and attendings are present for both shifts to support continued medical care and treatment. The unit utilizes IABP, CRRT, EEG-continuous monitoring, Acumen IQ, ICP monitoring, BIS monitoring, and TTM devices.

The health system comprises three hospitals, an outpatient surgery center, a regional cancer center, rehabilitation centers, two long-term care residences, home care and hospice services, and 34 affiliate physician practice locations. We provide both inpatient and outpatient medical services throughout Southwest Michigan.

Schedule

This is a Weekend Program consisting of working 48 out of 52 weekends in various locations throughout the system as need arises. The weekend is defined as shifts between the hours of 3:00 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. Specific times may vary according to location and need.

Hours of Work: 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Days Worked: Variable. Weekend Frequency: Every weekend. Weekly Scheduled Hours: 36.

Responsibilities

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. Responsibilities include:

• Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
• Recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
• Partnering with and utilizing patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care.
• Developing teaching strategies for patient/family and documenting education and learning appropriately in the health record.

Requirements

• Associate’s in Nursing (required). Bachelor’s in Nursing within 5 years (required).
• Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
• 2 years of acute care RN experience.
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days.
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days.
• NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) within 90 days.
